Welcome to the v.d. Pacific Paradise Lhasa Apsos! This kennel name may sound familiar in your ears thanks to memories of the successful Lhasa Apsos of Bianca Saasen in the eighties and nineties. Recently, I have taken over the Pacific Paradise flag and I hope, with the help of Bianca, to approach the success she enjoyed.
I am Jessica Geraerts and live in Eindhoven. My love for Lhasa Apsos began at an early age. We actually lived next to to the v.d. Pacific Paradise kennel. Instead of playing on the street, I would help take care of the dogs. Every week, I went along with them to the show and I really loved it.
At that time, the kennel also bred Shih Tzus and I liked them as well. My first dog was actually a Shih Tzu called Chico, and shortly after came Shih Tzu Joey. Delightful dogs, but not good enough for shows. I had, after all, enough dogs belonging to the Saasen family that I could show. At each show, I took part in the Junior Handling competition and that was great fun.
Unfortunately, my Shih Tzus died and we then bought the Lhasa Frisco. He was also a nice dog, but rather dominant. And so a switch from the Shih Tzu to the Lhasa... I thought “if I can get enough coat on him, I can take him with me as well”.
Unfortunately, the news came that Ans Saasen had died, and after that the shows were never what they had been. We were a sort of team; and now one of us was no longer around. I thought that everything was collapsing around me; we no longer went to shows and everything was different.
I was determined that, when I had passed my driving test, I would once again attend shows, but this time with my own dogs. And that is exactly what happened when I bought Dusky and later Faye. My aim is to own fine dogs and, in the future, to breed the occasional litter.
After consultation with Bianca, we have decided that I will continue the vd Pacific Paradise kennel. We will see what the future has in store for us...
